It’s happy hour in the Football Transfer Tavern as punters let their hair down with a few pints after another working week ends.
With only three-and-a-half weeks until the transfer window opens, rumours are starting to pick up in the bar and one that has become the topic of debate in the busy bar is the future of Lyon star Yoann Gourcuff.
With Newcastle United seemingly signing all of the French World Cup squad, it was thought that the playmaker may make his way to St. James’ Park but now Sports Direct News report that the Magpies will face competition as Atletico Madrid eye up a move for the 27-year-old.
Despite being the subject of interest from Alan Pardew, he has so far remained with Lyon and as a few drunk Friday night revelers admit, his head may be turned with the reported interest from Spain in January.
As a frustrating talent, Gourcuff has often been overlooked by the big clubs in Europe which made a move to the Magpies possible, but now Diego Simeone could take a chance of the French star, who has been in impressed form in Ligue 1 this season.
The French playmaker has also long been in the sights of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, though a move failed to materialise this summer as the signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid was made a priority for the club.
