Chelsea supporters are used to suggestions that La Liga champions Barcelona are chasing one of their star defenders in David Luiz but today’s reports indicate that another Blues player has been targeted by the Spanish giants.
Metro report that Barca could be willing to move for out of favour Blues defender Cesar Azpilicueta during the January transfer window as they look to add strength and depth to their current ranks.
The Spanish international has only appeared in a single appearance for Jose Mourinho’s new side during the bore 0-0 draw at Manchester United and that has brought about speculation that he could depart in the near future.
Mourinho has stuck with the excellent Branislav Ivanovic at right back this season and Blues supporters in the tavern now expect the 24-year-old to move on at the next possible opportunity.
Barcelona are now reportedly interested in this marginalisation at Stamford Bridge because of a possible shortage at right back.
Reports have suggested that Martin Montoya could be set to join Arsenal in January and that could see Barca moving for the former Marseille full back who only made the switch to West London under former manager Roberto Di Matteo last year.
It is thought that Azpilicueta could make only his second appearance of the season tonight as the Blues travel to Swindon Town in the third round of the Capital One Cup and here in the tavern we are interested to see how he gets on against the Mark Cooper’s League One outfit.
