Supporters at the bar are discussing the upcoming international matches to be shown in the Football Transfer Tavern when worrying news emerges that Barcelona are planning to take one of the finest young players away from the Premier League.
Today’s Metro indicates that Barcelona are step to chase up their pursuit for highly rated young Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as they look for a replacement for Victor Valdes in the summer.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has today confirmed the Catalan club are keen on the Belgian keeper who is currently spending the season on loan at fellow La Liga title rivals Atletico Madrid and has been earning rave reviews for his performances with Diego Simeone’s side.
Earlier this week Spanish reports suggested that the youngster wants to remain in Spain and had strong ambitions to replace Valdes at the Camp Nou next summer with the Spanish international set to depart.
And the president of Barca, Rosell has now fuelled speculation, admitting Coutois is a player he rates.
“He is a great goalkeeper, he is very good and I like him a lot,” Rosell told reporters.
Courtais was signed by the Blues from Genk in June 2011, but he is yet to feature for the Stamford Bridge outfit as world class keeper Petr Cech continues his reign as Blues number one.
However some Blues supporters in the bar believe that everything possible should be done to keep hold of the keeper who has performed so well in La Liga with Atletico in his two previous loan spells at the Vicente Calderon also.
Will Barca manage to get their hands on Courtois? Will it be a case that Chelsea simply have to let go? Let us know your thoughts below.
