The Daily Star have some news that may well end the festive cheer for Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that the club may well face a fight to hold onto their star asset with Real Madrid once again circling for Luis Suarez.
The one bit of good news for the Reds is that the La Liga giants will only move for the forward in the summer, meaning that not only do Liverpool have the chance to at least use the player to get Champions League football, but they may also be able to tie him down to a new deal.
A new deal, which is reportedly worth around £200,000 per week to the forward, is on the table. As our landlord quips, if the club have any sense at all, they will also include a far larger release clause for the forward than the reported £40 million.
Suarez is certainly a wanted man, with both Arsenal and Real Madrid leading the chase for him.
The Spanish side are determined to bring in another forward, after manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed concern over the two young stars at the club, Jese Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata, and Karim Benzema misfiring as always.
Suarez is a world class forward and would obviously be a huge coup for whoever could land him.
Will Liverpool keep hold of the forward? Let us know your thoughts below.
