The Daily Mail have a claim that has Chelsea fans looking rather unimpressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They seem to be under the impression that Chelsea’s on loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is a wanted man.
The young star has been out on loan yet again at high flying Spanish side Atletico Madrid ad has been a huge part of the success enjoyed by Diego Simeone’s men.
Courtois is aware that the time has now come to make a decision over his future and he simply cannot spend another season out on loan waiting for the chance to finally take the number one shirt at Stamford Bridge.
He also knows that Petr Cech is the firm number one at the club and he himself will not be guaranteed first team football – something that he craves desperately.
That has of course placed a huge amount of clubs on high alert, none more so than Catalan giants Barcelona. The club are looking for another keeper to replace Victor Valdes, who is leaving this summer after refusing to pen a new deal at the club.
As one of our punters quips, Barcelona and Jose Mourinho are not exactly on good terms and to think that the manager would let one of his best young stars join Barca is far-fetched indeed.
Atletico would also be keen on landing the Belgium international on a permanent basis after the stopper managed to make himself an integral part of their side.
For either club to net Courtois, Chelsea would be looking for around £17 million.
Will Courtois concede defeat to Cech and move to Spain permanently? Let us know your thoughts below.
