Neither is their manager; that is why the continued omission of defender David Luiz raises eyebrows, and the news from the Daily Star claiming Barcelona are once again set to show interest in the player does not shock us one little bit.
One Chelsea fan even quips that he would happily pack the defender’s bags and send him on a plane to Barcelona himself if it meant a hefty transfer fee which funded the arrival of another centre back. Preferably one Jose Mourinho would be happy to play each week.
Chelsea are currently operating with the defensive pairing of John Terry and Gary Cahill, and as our landlord observes, the Blues are missing someone in the mould of Ricardo Carvalho.
Clearly Mourinho is not willing to trust Luiz, so a move to the Camp Nou could well be on the cards. Barcelona are casting their eyes around for another central defender and are open admirers of Luiz’s style and ability on the ball – not to mention his love for going forward.
Carles Puyol is not getting any younger and add to this the shaky form of Gerard Pique – and his off the field activity these days, and some fresh blood is craved at the Camp Nou.
The La Liga champions are willing to pay £29 million for Luiz – rather decent for a glorified bench warmer!
Will Jose let the defender leave this January? Let us know your thoughts below.
