La Liga giants want Chelsea starlet in summer raid

courtois.jpgInteresting reports have emerged in the Football Transfer Tavern today as James Dickenson from The Express suggests that Barcelona will try to sign a Chelsea starlet.

The Catalans want young Blues keeper Thibaut Courtois who will act as a replacement for Victor Valdes in the summer.

The tavern has become quiet of late following the closure of the transfer window but this rumour has stirred Chelsea fans who are desperate to keep hold of the extremely promising 21-year-old who is currently the Belgian number one.

Dickenson indicates to punters that Barca are lining up the Belgian stopper as the next number one at the Camp Nou with Valdes set to depart on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract in June.

Courtois, who has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2016 is currently spending his third season on loan with La Liga side Atletico Madrid as the Blues look to aid his development with first team football at the highest level.

Reports from Spain suggest that Courtois would consider an offer from Barcelona with his progress at Stamford Bridge hindered by the outstanding performances of current first choice Petr Cech who has a few years left in him at the top just yet.

However Jose Mourinho wants the young keeper to replace Cech in the long-term and the club are eager to give him a new bumper contract to distract him from Barca’s interest as the youngster’s reputation continues to improve given his superb performances for Atletico.

The La Liga champions have also targeted German international keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has rejected a new deal at Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, but they view Courtais as a perfect option because of his prior experience playing in La Liga at the Vicente Calderon.

Should Chelsea just cash in on the very highly rated shot stopper as Cech doesn’t look like moving on anytime soon? Let us know your thoughts below.
