Representatives from The Mirror have flooded into the tavern with the news that the La Liga giants are plotting a move for Raheem Sterling as talks of a new contract stall.
The 19-year-old is on £30,000-a-week and that is a considerably low wage considering he is currently the Anfield club’s prized possession.
To add to the Reds’ sticky situation, there are plenty of other players at the club who are on a lot more money and are making nowhere near as much impact on the team as Sterling.
With Madrid circling around the situation like a hawk, they could potentially swoop for the Premier League starlet to add to their growing list of attacking talents.
Liverpool are scraping the bottom of the barrel to offer Sterling a contract that he cant refuse with the knowledge that if nothing is agreed, then clubs from all around Europe will not hesitate in giving the teenager a huge pay rise.
Liverpool fans have shown frustration in Reds boss Brendan Rodgers who has persisted with making Sterling wait for a new and improved deal.
Rodgers said: “When you reward young players too quickly – Raheem’s still only 19 – you give them too much too early and that will be their downfall. It’s a big problem because they lose their hunger.”
Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, has proved in the past that he doesn’t fear spending big money on big stars and it looks as though Sterling is next on his list.
Liverpool fans. Would signing Raheem Sterling on a new contract feel as good as signing a new player? Let us know your thoughts below.
