The Daily Telegraph seem to think that there could be a massive shock on the cards for punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication claim that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is willing to consider a swap deal with Chelsea involving Fernando Torres and Diego Costa.
As our punters nearly spit out their pints in shock, we try and work out why the Argentine would be willing to even consider allowing the hottest property in football to leave, and replace him with someone we consider to be a massive flop.
Torres cost Chelsea £50 million, and as our punters note, it was £50 million down the drain, with the Spanish forward only managing to net four Premier League goals this term. Shocking we know – even Demba Ba has more!
Costa meanwhile is being chased by just about everyone and Jose Mourinho has made no secret of the fact he wants to land the recently capped Spanish international forward.
When asked about the potential of Costa leaving and indeed Torres returning, Simeone claimed: “It will depend on him and what he thinks is the best for his future. I will support any decision he makes.
“It’s natural that Chelsea are interested in him. And that makes me happy, because my aim and that of my coaching staff is to see our players improve.
“Fernando is always with us, obviously I have sent messages to him, he is very happy with everything that is happening to this team, he is always present, wishing us luck.”
Quite why anyone would even consider allowing Costa to leave, especially in exchange for Torres is beyond us! We think a whole heap of money would also be involved!
Is Diego Simeone mad or would a Vicente Calderon return bring out the best in Torres once more? Let us know your thoughts below.
