Punters at the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping that Tottenham’s Gareth Bale will stay in the Premier League this summer but the Daily Star are claiming that Real Madrid are not giving up hope on signing the Welsh international winger just yet.
Bale has been offered a club record wage to stay at White Hart Lane for at least another season but the former Southampton winger is keen to fulfil his dream of playing for Real in La Liga.
Madrid want to make a major summer signing after going trophyless under Jose Mourinho last season and missing out on long-term target Neymar to rivals Barcelona two months ago. Despite signing the highly coveted Isco from Malaga, Los Blancos are used to attracting a plethora of top names.
While Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains their priority, the prospect of pairing the Portuguese star with Bale is one that Real are relishing and are hoping to make reality despite no bid being made as yet.
The Spanish side have promised Bale the number 11 shirt previously worn by the departed Ricardo Carvalho in 2012/13 and accidentally released an image of his name on the back of a shirt yesterday – some underhand tactics from the Spanish giants.
Tottenham included Gareth Bale alongside Jermain Defoe as part of their new 2013/14 kit launch on Monday in an attempt to reassure Tottenham supporters that his future remains at White Hart Lane under Andre Villas-Boas for now.
