Fernando Torres has endured a difficult spell at Chelsea, and Jamie Sanderson of Metro has stopped by at the Football Transfer Tavern to reveal that he believes his spell at Stamford Bridge may soon be drawing to a close.
Torres’ first club Atletico Madrid are the team plotting a move for the Spanish striker, with it understood that Torres would jump at a chance to return home to the Vicente Calderon.
The 28-year-old is having his best season yet in a Chelsea shirt, bagging 14 goals in all competitions. However he found himself booed off the pitch during the midweek Capital One Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Swansea City – a sign that Chelsea fans are starting to lose patience with their £50 million man.
The contrast between Torres at Chelsea and Torres during his Liverpool days has been staggering. The Spaniard has managed 26 goals in his first hundred games for the Blues, whilst managing 61 in the same number of games for his former club.
The stumbling point centres around the transfer fee, with a possible loan until the end of the season being mentioned.
Torres is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2013, and the Blues will look to recoup at least £20m of the £50m they paid for him two years ago.
