Liverpool supporters are in disbelief in the Transfer Tavern today after seeing their side throw away a three-goal lead to only draw 3-3 with Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday night, thus making the Reds wait to seal their place in the last 16.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the La Liga outfit having won their previous three matches in all competitions, in which time they had only conceded one goal. And they looked on course for five wins on the spin as a brace from Roberto Firmino and a Sadio Mane header gave them a 3-0 lead at the break, only for their defensive frailties to be exposed once again as Wissam Ben Yedder’s double and Guido Pizarro’s 93rd minute leveller sealed a point for Sevilla, thus preventing Klopp’s side from booking their place in the knockout stages.
Subsequently, there have been many deflated Liverpudlians in the Tavern in the last few hours, and their mood isn’t likely to be improved by a recent report from Sport (via talkSPORT), which suggests that Tuesday’s opponents Sevilla are confident of signing Reds target Javier Pastore.
The 28-year-old currently plays his trade at French giants Paris Saint-Germain and has done so since 2011, in which time he has played 241 games, and helped the club win four Ligue 1 titles as well as a whole host of other domestic trophies.
Yet the Argentina international has managed just nine first team appearances under Unai Emery this term to suggest that his time at the club could be coming to an end, and as such the midfielder has attracted attention from the likes of Chelsea, Inter Milan, and of course Klopp’s Liverpool.
However, recent reports suggest that Sevilla are leading the race for the 28-year-old, and as such are ‘confident’ of landing Pastore in the forthcoming January transfer window, which looks set to strike a significant blow in Klopp’s transfer plans at Anfield.
Landlord’s verdict: Javier Pastore has been a mainstay in the Paris Saint-Germain side for many years now, but a lack of regular football this term could signal the end of his time in the French capital.
With just nine first team appearances this season, the 28-year-old is falling down Unai Emery’s pecking order, and as such a January move could be in the offing with plenty of suitors keeping tabs on his situation, not least Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
However, reports suggest that La Liga side Sevilla, who came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with the Reds on Tuesday, are ‘confident’ of landing the Argentina international in January, which is sure to strike big blow into Klopp’s own transfer plans.
The Reds will certainly have the financial power to match Sevilla, but whether Pastore desires a move to the Premier League remains to be seen.
