Santa Cruz, who has been strongly linked to Fulham and Blackburn, may see a move to Spain as a fresh start after two frustrating years at Eastlands.
Getafe’s management will be worried that they may not have enough players to deal with the amount of games they will have to play come the new year. They are still in the Spanish League Cup and the Europa League and still have their league commitments.
Getafe will be hoping the Paraguyan International can re-find the form that earned him his move to the Eastlands in 2009. His last season at Blackburn Rovers saw the tall striker hit 23 goals in just 57 appearances for the Lancashire club.
The frustrated 29-year-old holds a Spanish passport and his valuation of around £4million is a snip compared to the £17million shelled out by City in 2009. Playing in a country where he could speak his native language could be a very enticing prospect for the Paraguyan.
Any move would put Blackburn Rovers and Fulham on red alert. Santa Cruz is still a hero at Ewood Park and the tall centre-forward would suit Big Sam’s style of play perfectly. Though, Fulham boss Mark Hughes is desperate to team up with the striker once again.
Hughes, then manager of Lancashire club Blackburn, brought the former Bayern Munich player to Ewood Park for £3.5million in 2007.
