Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted that Mauricio Pochettino will be continuing as manager of the club and are excited to see who will be his first signing of the summer.
Pochettino penned a new deal with the club but was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid after Zinedine Zidane announced his departure. The Argentine was believed to be a top target of the Spanish club, but he now seems set to stay at White Hart Lane. Now, our punters are eager to see Tottenham’s summer recruitment drive begin.
Adding to their attack is surely going to be a priority and lowering the goalscoring burden on Harry Kane’s shoulders. If they are to challenge Manchester City for the title and compete in Europe, goals from other positions will be vital. With Erik Lamela failing to up his game, signing a new right-winger would be a smart move.
An ideal option could be Marseille attacker – Florian Thauvin. The French winger joined Newcastle in 2016 but failed to impress under Steve McClaren. He moved back to France on loan before completing a permanent deal, and his form has drastically improved since. Thauvin enjoyed a sensational season, scoring 26 goals and notching 18 assists in all competitions.
His form has seen his market value skyrocket to £45m according to Transfermarkt; he would be an excellent signing for Spurs. He is still only 25-years-old meaning his best years are yet to come. Pochettino has a reputation for improving young players, Thauvin could score even more goals under his guidance.
