The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their promotion battle. After last season’s disappointing mid-table campaign, they are now looking ahead to the rest of the season, where Steve Bruce’s side will compete with the likes of Derby County and Cardiff City for an automatic promotion spot.
But to do this, Bruce might need to add one or two new faces to the squad this winter. If Aston Villa suffer an injury or two in the attacking midfield ranks, for example, they might be left without that creative spark for the run in and this is something that teams cannot afford at that vital stage of the season.
Aston Villa are severely restricted by Financial Fair Play due to recent heavy spending so a loan deal looks the most likely. If they want to snap up a new attacking midfielder this month, they should look no further than West Bromwich Albion starlet Oliver Burke.
Burke signed for West Brom after a season at Red Bull Leipzig in the Bundesliga but has struggled to adapt to Premier League football this term. A spell in the Championship could help him to rediscover the form he showed at the start of the 2016/17 season with Nottingham Forest, when he was scoring goals for fun.
Rated at a fairly high £10.80m on Transfermarkt, even a loan move for the Scot would be a wonderful idea.
Aston Villa would be a good place for him to go because they are a big club and they are aiming to win promotion. The Scotland international would see a lot of the ball and have plenty of opportunities to show his attacking threat – something which West Bromwich Albion could benefit from next year too.
