The Arsenal fans were delighted to welcome Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the club earlier this week in a swap deal with Manchester United that saw Alexis Sanchez move in the opposite direction.
Mkhitaryan has been given a lifeline by Arsene Wenger in his stuttering career after he failed to live up to expectation at Old Trafford. The Armenian ace arrived in Manchester with a huge reputation following his magnificent campaign at Borussia Dortmund during the 2015/16 season in which he scored 23 goals and provided 32 assists from 52 matches in all-competitions. That level of success is virtually unheard of in the English top-flight, but if he can replicate that kind of form during his career at Arsenal there is no doubt that they will shortly return to the Champions League.
The arrival of Mkhitaryan will almost certainly not conclude Arsenal’s business for the January window, as they are also interested in current Borussia Dortmund employee Pierre-Emerick Abuameyang according to The Daily Telegraph.
Arsenal’s signing of Mkhitaryan and their current interest in Aubameyang suggests there is something of a theme emerging for the North-London club, as they recently brought Sven Mislintat to the club from Dortmund to work as their head of recruitment.
With that to consider, it seems likely that Mislintat has advised Wenger to make an approach for Dortmund’s Gabon international, and considering Mislintat’s knowledge and experience, it may not be too long before Arsenal make a move for Christian Pulisic (valued at £40.5 million by Transfermarkt).
The American international has already been capped 20 times by the national side, scoring 9 goals in the process. In Dortmund yellow, Pulisic has made 79 appearances for the club since making his debut at just 17 years-of-age, which is a huge level of experience for a player who is yet to reach his 20th birthday. Considering these statistics, it is no wonder that his development is generating interest across Europe.
Pulisic is certainly not the finished article as of yet, but his achievements in the game at just 19-years-of-age are truly staggering, so Wenger must consult Mislintat and move quickly to bring him to The Emirates before one of Europe’s heavyweights come calling for his signature.
