The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have enjoyed seeing Andreas Christensen in the first team this season. The Dane, who returned from a loan at Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of last season, has enjoyed a regular role in the team this season – largely displacing David Luiz, who has had his fair share of injury problems this term.
However, it hasn’t been plain sailing for him. He’s made some pretty high-profile mistakes throughout the year, and that’s something that cannot be allowed to continue next season.
Chelsea, then, could well consider bringing in another player to steady the ship whilst Christensen continues to develop his game.
One player that could be perfect is John Stones, who is rated at £45 million by Transfer Markt. The Englishman has found game time hard to come by this season, and he could jump at the chance to join Chelsea as a regular first-teamer.
He shares many traits with Christensen, too. A fantastic passer of the ball, he’d be perfect in the heart of the Blues’ defence – making use of his technical ability to spring play forward. He also possesses solid defensive quality – offering strong tackling, powerful heading and decent reading of the game.
Like Christensen, he had his moments as a younger player, but the Englishman has really matured under Pep Guardiola, and whilst Christensen has the potential to be just as good – Stones is already at his maximum level.
Chelsea, in their current state, can’t really afford to persist with players that aren’t already at their best. Stones, then, would be a fantastic choice for the club, and Christensen’s future could even begin to look bleak if the Englishman arrives.
