Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing with the club’s early business in the transfer market – you wouldn’t believe they lost the Champions League final last week!
Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid and wasted no time in strengthening their squad following their defeat. Naby Keita’s arrival from RB Leipzig was already confirmed, and the Reds also completed a huge deal for Monaco midfielder Fabinho under the noses of their rivals. Their business is expected to continue in the build-up to the World Cup.
To strengthen their midfield again, Liverpool should return to the Bundesliga and attempt to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich. Reports in the Daily Mail have suggested the German club are looking to streamline their squad and are open to offers for the former Barcelona maestro in order to fund a move for Christian Pulisic. Liverpool should look to take advantage and bring him to Anfield.
Valued at £55m by Transfermarkt, Thiago is one of the best creative midfielders in the world. He is the perfect replacement for Philippe Coutinho in the engine room. He started just 12 games in the Bundesliga, scoring two and assisting two. He possesses an excellent range of passing and strong dribbling skills but also tracks back and helps the defence making him ideal for Klopp’s system.
Alongside Keita, with Fabinho behind him, signing Thiago would give Liverpool one of the best midfields in the Premier League. A midfield that could finally deliver their first Premier League title and their best player since Xabi Alonso, a move for Thiago makes total sense.
