Landing £61m-rated international would turn Liverpool into serious title contenders next season

Liverpool are a team on the up, and it’s fair to say that over the next few years, more trophies will make their way to Anfield under Jurgen Klopp. The German has embarked on quite the journey with the Reds, and it’s far from over.

Indeed, their performances this season have proven that with a bit of extra magic, they will be able to compete on any level imaginable, and that magic could come in the form of Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir.

According to the Guardian last week, the French international is a key target of Liverpool this summer – despite his pricy £61 million price tag.

Whilst Liverpool’s attack is very strong, a move for the Frenchman would undoubtedly be crucial for the club. He’s bagged a stunning 23 goals and 8 assists this season, and that goes some way to establishing what he can do. A brilliant passer, he’s right at home in the attack, and he’s excellent at moving the ball forward and creating chances. This would, naturally, benefit someone like Mohamed Salah, whilst Roberto Firmino would likely be a big benefactor too.

The timing is key here, too. Adam Lallana has had a tough season with injury, and the Reds don’t really know if he’ll be able to get back to his best. In Fekir, they would have a fantastic replacement for him, whilst he’d also be able to fit in on the flanks. Furthermore, with Liverpool improving as a team, the rate of their games is only going to increase, and so further depth is always needed.

It’s hard to dispute that bringing someone like Fekir in would increase Liverpool’s chances in every tournament next season, but in particular, his creativity and goals would certainly give them a much better chance of winning the title next term – especially as it would reduce the onus on Mohamed Salah.
