Landing midfield maestro would give Tottenham the creativity needed to win the league – opinion

Tottenham’s team has been build upon a foundation of excitement and creativity. Gone are the days of mediocrity and a lack of talent in North London. Instead, they’ve been replaced by Mauricio Pochettino’s brand of brilliant quality and success.

However, the Lilywhites are yet to make their mark on the trophy-front in recent years, and that is something that needs to change. They aren’t far away – they’ve been challenging for a few years now – but one or two major additions could make all the difference.

One player that would certainly provide this team with a lot is Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago, who according to the Independent is interesting Man Utd. It would be very tough for Spurs to secure a deal for him – but perhaps he’s the perfect example of what the club needs.

Tottenham have a lot of quality in the midfield, but they don’t have someone quite like Thiago. Both Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier are more of the destroyed type, whilst Mousa Dembele provides quality on the ball and strength in equal measure. Thiago, meanwhile, is more concerned with creativity and passing.

Last season, he picked up a very impressive 93.2 passes per 90 minutes, indicating that 0n average he made more than one a minute, which is a remarkable feat. Just 2.1 of those, though, have been deemed key passes – and that indicates the sort of player that he is. He’s not necessarily concerned with assist-making or producing incredible cross-field passes, but rather, he helps the team tick at a much deeper level.

He would really make this team tick.

That would be good for Spurs, given the quality that they have going forward. Between the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, they’ve got more than enough quality to supply Harry Kane. However, where they often fall short is by not offering enough support to those key players – and that’s where Thiago would come in. With over 91% passing accuracy last season, there’s no doubting that he would be able to move the ball forward comfortably. He would really make this team tick.

In truth, signing Thiago would offer Spurs another dimension of quality through the midfield, and that’s something that Mauricio Pochettino could really do with. Not to mention, his experience would aid Spurs in their quest to finally grab the so-called brass ring needed to finally secure an elusive major trophy.
