West Ham United fans here in the Tavern are desperate for improvements over the course of the summer, as their side nearly suffered relegation to the Championship this season.
Manuel Pellegrini was recently appointed the new West Ham United boss, as he’ll be looking to work his magic in the English top-flight once again after securing one Premier League title and two League Cups at the Etihad.
Although, the Hammers did struggle in front of goal this season as summer signing Javier Hernandez wasn’t able to ensure consistency at the pinnacle of the attack.
However, one man who always knew how to find the back of the net was Paolo Di Canio, a West Ham United legend in the eyes of many of our local residents.
Indeed, the Italian scored some outrageous goals during his time in the English capital, with his volley from a tight angle against Wimbledon being our local residents’ favourite. So, supporters would love nothing more than to see a striker brought in who can replicate his magic, as the club’s strikers didn’t meet expectations this season.
With that in mind, landing this striker would surely give West Ham fans Di Canio flashbacks…
Fedor Smolov, who is valued at £13.5 million (by Transfermarkt), was very effective this season, with 14 goals and six assists to his name in just 24 appearances for Russian club Krasnodar.
The striker stands at 6ft 1 1⁄2 inches, which he uses to his advantage from set-pieces and crosses that come into the box, while also being able to utilise his pace and skill from wide areas. So, the 28-year-old is a rather accomplished and versatile player, that can play at the pinnacle of the attack or out on the wing, with goals ever-present in his game.
So, with supporters still admiring how brilliant Di Canio was back in the day, it may not be long until they uncover their very first London Stadium hero, as the Russian national team captain has already shown that he can score bags of goals both domestically and on the international stage.
