The Man Utd defence is evidently an area in need of serious improvement, with problems springing up all across the back-line. One area that has been particularly problematic for the Red Devils has been the left-back spot, with Luke Shaw struggling and Ashley Young clearly not the long-term solution that Jose Mourinho craves.
This summer, then, bringing in a new option makes perfect sense, and our landlord has backed Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam to be the perfect solution.
An offensively-minded full-back, Ghoulam – who is rated at £22.5 million by Transfer Markt – would be well suited to the Premier League. Offering fantastic passing and crossing, he provides a brilliant threat down the left-hand side, whilst he also has decent pace, which allows him to rampage up and down the wings.
That said, whilst he is certainly an offensive player, that doesn’t take away from his defensive quality. He’s a strong tackler and is particularly good at reading the game, meaning that he is, in many ways, a real jack of all trades for Napoli.
At 27-years-old, the defender is a player that is entering the prime of his career. As such, he still has at least 5 years at the top of his game, meaning that he would represent a perfect relatively long-term option for Jose Mourinho.
Man Utd can’t afford to buy young, inexperienced players. They need talent that can guarantee good performances, otherwise they could continue to falter away from the top of the Premier League.
Ghoulam could be the perfect addition, having proven his quality over the last few years. Alongside the likes of Antonio Valencia and Eric Bailly, the defender will fit in very well indeed.
