Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have shown slight concern at their side’s recent struggles away from home in the Championship.
Thomas Christiansen’s men went top of the division after seven games having won five and drawn the other two of them, but since then they have managed just one win in four league matches, and have subsequently slipped down the table.
And all three of those losses came on the road with defeats at Millwall, Cardiff City, and Sheffield Wednesday seriously stunting their momentum, yet our resident Whites fans know that they remain fifth in the table, and thus very much in contention for promotion.
However, the last few weeks have somewhat highlighted their limitations, limitations which they are looking to address given that recent reports suggest that the Yorkshire giants are eyeing up a January move for Liverpool’s Danny Ings.
The 25-year-old has struggled with injury ever since making the move to Anfield from Burnley back in 2015, but has stepped up his rehabilitation recently with appearances in their Under-23 side, as well as a 17-minute cameo in the first team’s Carabao Cup defeat at Leicester last month.
And reports suggest that Leeds are seeking to offer him the regular football he needs to get back to his best level, a level which saw him earn an England cap back in 2015.
And it’s a move the Whites must look to get done, as landing the £7.2 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) would seriously enhance their promotion credentials as they go in search of a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
Ultimately, Leeds sold star striker Chris Wood during the summer, which also saw 27 Championship goals leave Elland Road.
And although they brought in several talented attacking players during the summer, you still sense that they are lacking that out-and-out goalscorer who will get them through the tricky times as the season progresses, much like Wood did last term.
And Ings could be the man.
The 25-year-old’s last season at Championship level saw him score 21 goals and lay on seven assists to help Burnley win promotion to the top-flight, and he then went on to become an even better player in the Premier League for the Clarets the season after.
Thus, he could be a huge asset to Christiansen at Elland Road in the second half of the season.
Leeds have got some incredibly talented attackers in the likes of Samuel Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski, and Pablo Hernandez, and having someone like Ings in front of them, a willing runner with a keen eye for goal, could bring the very best out of them.
It hasn’t worked for the striker at Liverpool. Injuries have stunted his progress following his move from Burnley, so a move away to try and resurrect his career could be exactly what he needs to get back to his previous level.
Leeds are reportedly willing to offer him that chance, in a move which appears to be in the best interests of all parties involved.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
