The latest bid is reportedly €34m OR €30m + Yossi Benayoun. Chelsea appear to be desperate to land Modric by the end of the window and are raising their bid to include a replacement attacking midfielder to subsidise the loss of the Croatian play maker.
The latest bid just represents what a farce the entire chase has been so far as Chelsea continue to offer what is, in my opinion, yet another unattractive offer.It looks like Levy made the decision to keep Modric several weeks ago and thus his mind will not be changed by bids scaling upwards in value only a few million at a time.
The fact that Abramovich has been chasing Luka Modric all summer and submitting derisory bids has unsettled the player and put a spanner in the works during Tottennham’s pre-season preparations. We’ve seen it many times before with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Gareth Barry and James Milner. It happens too often and it hurts the club.
Consider the fact that Fernando Torres was £50m. Luka Modric is a world class player who is worth more than the £30m the bid translates to in this current market. Chelsea need to stop messing around and take one of two routes;
I. Significantly raise the bid and land Luka Modric if you really, really want him.
II. Withdraw your interest and stop ruining Tottenham’s pre-season routine.
One of the two needs to happen pretty soon because the world is bored of this transfer ‘saga’ and wants to see the end of it.
