The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern had been expecting a little bit more than they are currently getting from their side this season. It’s been a pretty tough few months for the Reds, though given that they are currently sat in 5th place, all is not lost. Indeed, the next few weeks and months could be season-defining for Jurgen Klopp, and he’ll want to maximise the number of points that his side earns.
He will need all the help that he can get in order to make that happen, and fortunately for him, that help could be on the way in the form of a few freshly available players. Liverpool have had a few injury problems this term, but it appears as though things are on the up. According to Ben Dinnery on Twitter, the Reds could have both Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson available again this week, whilst Sadio Mane is also in with a chance of returning.
This is massive for the Reds, not least because of how long Lallana, in particular, has been out for. Since picking up a thigh injury in August, he has missed so many important games, and Liverpool have certainly felt the effects of that. At this point last season he was arguably their most important player, and so the significance of his return, in particular, cannot be undervalued. In addition, when you combine this with the emergence of players like Joe Gomez, then Liverpool’s squad problems quickly reduce in significance.
Contextually is where the significance of this really shines, though. Liverpool are set to embark on a season-defining few weeks, with a number of big games coming. They’ve got four games to contend with before the end of the month, whilst another eight games in December will see them take on a total of 12 fixtures before the year is over. That’s a huge run of games, with opponents like Everton and Chelsea going to make things tough for the Reds.
These injury boosts could not have come at a better time for Jurgen Klopp, with more options and a higher quality squad likely to have a massive impact over the coming weeks.
