Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been taken aback, and have ordered in a new round to cope, after suggestions that they could lose a crucial first-team defender this month.
The Daily Express state that Kolo Toure has emerged as a January target for injury-hit Lazio, which could hand a serious blow to Jurgen Klopp’s aims to land Champions League football for next season.
Whilst Toure is far from a first-team regular, falling behind Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel in the pecking order, the Ivorian will be crucial in the months ahead as Liverpool balance a Europa League campaign with their Premier League ambitions.
Liverpool could be persuaded into a sale for a small fee this month as Toure’s deal with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, with it being unlikely that the 34-year-old former Arsenal and Manchester City defender will be offered fresh terms.
With Joe Gomez still injured though, our fans are concerned that Liverpool’s defensive depth will be shattered with the loss of Toure and don’t believe it’s worth earning the small fee for his services.
