Le Saux: This will be a ‘big advantage’ for Tottenham when they face Chelsea this weekend

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling confident ahead of their clash with Chelsea this weekend…

The Lilywhites impressed on the opening day of the season, whilst Chelsea struggled. Significantly, the Blues are missing a number of key players for the game, and this could – at least according to Graham Le Saux – be key as the Lilywhites look to steal a march on their title rivals.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Le Saux has revealed that he thinks Chelsea’s lack of midfield depth could prove to be a problem for his former side.

He said: “It can be a big advantage for Spurs…A three-man midfield for Spurs of Dier, Wanyama and Dembele – you’re in business there”.

Elaborating, he said: “They will be against Kante plus one other. Midfield is the key area of the pitch because Chelsea, last season they dominated in midfield with the combination of Matic and Kante…but now they look light”.

Nemanja Matic has been sold, whilst Cesc Fabregas is unavailable through suspension. New signing Tiemoue Bakayoko is also unlikely to be available from the start, given that he is yet to feature for the Blues.

In truth, it’s a bit of a nightmare situation for Chelsea – but Tottenham will be loving that. They will look to control the midfield, and they’ll likely be able to use that as a foundation from which to build attacks.

Landlord’s Verdict

On their day, no side in the Premier League is better than Tottenham.

Chelsea simply have to be at full strength if they want to compete, and the simple fact of the matter is that they wont be at that level this weekend.

A lack of players is going to be very problematic for Conte, and whilst he has created magic at Stamford Bridge so far, their lack of midfield depth could be too much for even him.
