The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted with their side’s convincing performance against Stoke City last night.
Following back to back draws at Old Trafford prior to the New Year, Jose Mourinho’s side recorded their first home victory in the league for just over a month last night with a 3-0 victory against Stoke. Antonio Valencia got United off to the perfect start after 9 minutes with a wonderfully executed left-footed strike, before Anthony Martial doubled the lead in the 38th minute with an equally exquisite strike.
After some minor resistance from The Potters, the game was eventually put beyond them by United’s top goal-scorer Romelu Lukaku who shrugged off the challenges of two Stoke defenders before powering a low effort beyond Jack Butland.
Lukaku has been subjected to plenty of criticism from the supporters so far this season despite his decent goal-scoring record for The Red Devils.
And perhaps to the surprise of some, plenty of fans have taken to Twitter to call for United to offload Mourinho’s first-choice striker this month following his performance last night.
Considering Lukaku has only been at the club since the summer of 2017, it is extremely unlikely that the demands of the supporters will be met, but that hasn’t prevented the fans from suggesting it as a possibility.
Here’s what a handful of the United fans had to say about Lukaku’s future at the club…
Lukaku needs to leave my club asap
