Liverpool

Leaving Liverpool next year is in the best interests of this 22-year-old ace – Agreed?

Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side thump Swansea City 5-0 on Boxing Day to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 11 matches, at the same time remaining fourth in the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the division’s bottom side off the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal a few days previous, yet they got back to winning ways with an attacking masterclass at Anfield on Tuesday. A brace from Roberto Firmino as well as goals from Philippe Coutinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain secured a comprehensive success for Klopp’s side, who moved back into fourth place following Tottenham’s win earlier in the day.

Subsequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are eagerly anticipating the New Year and what success their team could have under Klopp in 2018.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Reds fans to get their teeth into recently, not least reports suggesting that Wolfsburg are seeking to make Divock Origi’s loan move permanent in the summer.

The 22-year-old joined the Bundesliga outfit temporarily back in August and has since performed well with four goals in 15 league games for the club, and must be doing something right as the German side reportedly want to keep him there beyond the summer.

And with Liverpool’s attacking ranks performing as well as they are at present, it’s a move the Belgium international must consider at the end of the season in the best interests of his career.

Ultimately, when one takes a look at the Reds’ current forward options, Origi is going to struggle for regular football. The likes of Coutinho, Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah have been in sensational form so far this season and don’t look like letting up anytime soon.

In fact, it has been Mane, arguably their player of the season last term, who has been restricted to a spot on the bench in three of their last six league matches such is the plethora of options at Klopp’s disposal.

And with Daniel Sturridge, Dominic Solanke, and Danny Ings also waiting in the wings, first team opportunities look hard to come by for Origi were he to return in the summer, even if the speculation surrounding the future of Coutinho and Sturridge does come to fruition.

Yes, he is only 22 and did show glimpses of promise for the Merseyside giants in netting 11 goals last season, but the Belgian star is at an age whereby he needs football on a regular basis to really hone in on his talents – that’s not a given at Anfield.

And although he was guilty of a horrendous miss for Wolfsburg earlier this month, it’s clear that he is proving his worth to the Bundesliga outfit this season, at the same time developing further as a forward.

But there would be huge question marks over that development were he to return to Liverpool in the summer, such are Klopp’s options in the attacking department, which is why a permanent move to Wolfsburg looks to be in the best interests of the 22-year-old ace.
