Paul Robinson believes that Mateusz Klich will be left out of Leeds United's squad for their clash with Sheffield United this weekend.

The Whites are back in action after the international break, with a local derby next up as Marcelo Bielsa's side host the bottom-of-the-table Blades in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, looking for another three points in an impressive season.

A home win is expected at Elland Road given both teams' respective positions in the league, but someone who may not feature for Leeds is Klich.

Robinson claims Klich will be dropped

The midfielder tested positive for the virus during the international break, and while he hasn't been ruled out of the game, Robinson told MOT Leeds News that he doesn't expect him to feature:

"He won’t play. I don’t think he’s fit and I don’t think he will play. He’s been in and out of the team for the past few games and he was complaining about fatigue before he got Covid.

"He’ll have his fitness assessed stringently – we know that Covid affects people differently. I suffered badly from it in January and the effects afterwards can be pretty bad.

"I saw the Povetkin v Whyte fight on Saturday and Povetkin was hospitalised with Covid. He just didn’t seem the same fighter.

"You just don’t know what the long-term effects of Covid are going to be and for that reason I don’t think Bielsa will put Klich anywhere near the squad on Saturday."

Transfer Tavern take

In truth, Klich being out for the visit of the Blades should be no great blow for Leeds, considering that the 30-year-old hasn't been a regular starter of late.

He has only completed one 90 minutes since early February - the 1-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa - and only came on as a late substitute in the two most recent games, against Chelsea and Fulham. Therefore, Robinson's prediction certainly seems a plausible one.
