Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t had too much to smile about in recent years but their side’s stance regarding the interest of a long-term rival has led to many pints in celebration.
Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the signature of Lewis Cook will be available for just £5m this summer if the Yorkshire giants fail to achieve promotion- which seems extremely likely given the side’s position this term.
Those reports immediately let to a re-emergence of Manchester United’s suggested interest, with the Red Devils looking to have a clear path to sign the talented 19-year-old midfielder.
However, Leeds moved quickly to quash the reports with a statement on their official website which denied the player has any such release clause in his contract- effectively stating that £5m would not be enough to secure Cook’s signature.
The Leeds fans in the bar are naturally delighted as their hopeful of a promotion push next season and they feel that losing Cook would be extremely detrimental to their plans.
