Leeds United have taken an interest in Dinamo Zagreb youngster Lovro Majer but face stiff competition from other European clubs.

The Yorkshire side were busy over the summer transfer window as Marcelo Bielsa signed no fewer than eight players.

The Whites have started the season strongly but Bielsa is seemingly looking towards the January transfer window to further strengthen his squad.

Majer, who currently plays in Croatia, has been gaining recognition for his recent form, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Fiorentina, Valencia and Sevilla all being linked with a future move.

How have Leeds joined the race for Lovro Majer?

Italian media Calciomercato have reported that the Whites have shown interest in the 22-year-old and have 'gained information' on a potential deal.

Currently valued at £2.07m by Transfermarkt, Majer is said to be ready for a new challenge despite his current contact with Dinamo Zagreb not due to expire until 2023.

QUIZ: Can you remember these 10 Marcelo Bielsa signings at Leeds?

Earning comparisons with compatriot Luka Modric, the youngster has big boots to fill but he has already featured for the Croatian national side at under-21 level, making 14 appearances and scoring four goals.

Can Leeds land Lovro Majer?

Majer, who has been likened to Ballon D'Or winner Modric, could go on to become a key player in European football and, if Leeds can beat off the competition to sign him, it would seem like a real coup from Bielsa.

Leeds' transfer business has been plentiful, yet a potential move for Majer may prove to be the best signing of them all.
