Leeds United: Barry Douglas asking price to be slashed

Leeds United: Barry Douglas asking price to be slashed - Leeds United

Football Insider have claimed that Leeds United will slash the asking price of Barry Douglas ahead of Friday’s domestic deadline day.

Left-back Douglas is expected to seal a departure from Elland Road over the next few days after interest shown from the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Watford.

Scottish defender Douglas, who previously had spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Lech Poznan before moving to Leeds, has featured 44 times for the Whites thus far.

With an exit now heavily speculated, the likes of former Premier League boss Alex McLeish have been tipping the defender to move on with Watford said to be leading the race for his signature.

Leeds ready to slash Douglas’ asking price

Currently valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, it is now being reported by Football Insider that Leeds would be willing to slash that price if a permanent deal developed over the coming days.

The report claims that a source close to Leeds has said that the Yorkshire club would prefer to sell the 31-year-old and get him off the books rather than see a loan deal develop.

It is also claimed that Leeds would be willing to go below half of what they paid Wolves under the guidance of Victor Orta, which was a figure of £3m back in July 2018.

Is Douglas worth just £1m and is an exit from Leeds the right thing?

With the form of Stuart Dallas at left-back for Leeds, Douglas’ chances of getting enough playing time this season seem very thin, so a move that secures any transfer fee whatsoever for the club would be best for all parties.

Watford, who will be desperate to get themselves back in the Premier League after last season’s disappointment, will no doubt be buoyed by the potential drop in asking price by Leeds.

Spending just over £1m, which is 50% off what Leeds paid for Douglas, for a current Premier League player, who has ample experience in the second tier, would add an extra dimension to the Vicarage Road outfit’s defensive setup.
