Premier League side Leeds United will reportedly face interest from Championship clubs in Tyler Roberts.
Darren Bent had recently talked about the situation of the 21-year-old Roberts, saying that he has a dilemma in front of him about whether to stay in the Premier League or play in the Championship for first-team football. An update has now emerged about Roberts.
Should Leeds loan out Roberts?
Championship clubs want Roberts
Football Insider have now reported that many clubs in the Championship are looking to sign Roberts this month and there is no shortage of interest. The 21-year-old’s future at Elland Road is said to be up in the air.
The report mentions interest from second-tier clubs like Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City, Preston North End and Bournemouth as well. Wayne Rooney’s Derby County want to put together a deal for the forward, but they now face intense competition in the race for him.
The former West Brom man has been exiled by Marcelo Bielsa this term, only playing 237 minutes of Premier League football and even dropping down to play for the Leeds Under-23s, for whom he has impressed by scoring three times and assisting twice (as per Transfermarkt).
Loan move might benefit Roberts
Roberts was part of Bielsa’s side in the Championship last season and made 23 appearances, while scoring four goals and getting one assist. This suggests that Roberts can do a job in the Championship and play more often in the second division than he is in the Premier League.
While a move to the Championship might benefit Roberts though, he can play in three positions on the pitch, so as the season wears on, Leeds may live to regret it if they get rid and injuries and fatigue begin to stack up.
