Leeds United could look to strengthen in the upcoming January transfer window. Former Elland Road man Noel Whelan believes Divock Origi would be a good signing.
What Whelan had to say about Origi
Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan said: “I would like to see Leeds show a bit of intent in the January market and go and sign a striker who has experience in the Premier League.
“We need a player that will be complimentary to the side and Origi is the perfect fit. He comes from great stock at Liverpool. He likes to run in behind, he is a powerhouse, has pace, strength and aerial ability. We predominantly down those wide areas so he is ticking a lot of boxes for me.”
Would this be a good signing?
There is no doubting the quality and experience of the Liverpool forward, who has won the Premier League with the Reds. He was also key in them winning the Champions League – the Belgium international scored the second goal in the final against Tottenham Hotspur after bagging a brace vs Barcelona before that.
He has only played twice in the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp this season (Transfermarkt) and this highlights that perhaps Klopp sees him as surplus to requirements with the abundance of talent he has available. However, this should not be something that puts Leeds off.
He is only 25, and has 59 goals and 22 assists to his name (Transfermarkt) already in his career. If Marcelo Bielsa wants squad depth, then the £14.40m-valued forward could be an ideal signing to bolster the attack.
