Leeds United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to hold onto their 21-year-old full back Sam Byram, who has reportedly been targeted by Newcastle United.
And reports from the Daily Mirror reckon the Championship giants are preparing to offer the right back a new contract in the hope of seeing off the interest from Steve McClaren’s side.
Byram is an England Under-20 international who is capable of playing at right back and at right wing. He has previously caught the attentions of Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham, although Newcastle are set to step up their interest with a £1 million offer.
Byram has entered the final year of his contract at Elland Road, and Leeds officials have become concerned he will walk away on a free transfer in a year.
The Yorkshire club have attempted to offer the 21-year-old a lengthy extension on reduced terms previously, but without success.
A number of Leeds United supporting punters enjoying a game of pool here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping Uwe Rosler can do all he can to keep Byram at Elland Road, with all of them agreeing he is definitely one of the club’s best players!
