Leeds United should look to save former fan favourite from Premier League nightmare this month

Leeds United are going well in the Championship this season under Thomas Christiansen, and lie just a single place outside of the playoff spots.

The Whites have been something of a Jekyll and Hyde side this season, going on fantastic winning streaks before struggling for form for long periods, but their inconsistency on both sides has kept them in the running for promotion this season. Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are quietly confident of securing a top six finish this season, and told our landlord over a game of pool that with a couple of solid additions this month, playoff football should be in the bag. Christiansen’s men have been solid enough at the back this year, conceding at marginally over a goal a game, but fans are keen to see that record brought to an even more impressive level.

Swansea defender Kyle Bartley impressed during a loan spell at Elland Road last season, and fans in The Tavern are desperate to see the Arsenal academy graduate return this month. Leeds had considered a move for the player in the summer, but were fended off by the Swans. However with Bartley appearing just three times in the league this season, his patience could be wearing thin, and a move back to West Yorkshire will certainly have its draws. Swansea are in deep trouble at the bottom of the table, and relegation appears more likely with every passing week. Leeds appear to be a club on the up, and it would take nobody by surprise to see the two sides swap places for next season.

Bartley isn’t getting the recognition he deserves at The Liberty Stadium, and if the 26-year-old can receive assurances of his value at Elland Road, a switch to Leeds appears likely should Christiansen renew his interest.
