‘Legendary player’ – Aston Villa fans on Twitter celebrate cult-hero ahead of Play-Off final

The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to their club’s Twitter post, commemorating Alan Hutton. The 33-year Scottish right-back has been in superb form this season and played a crucial role in keeping Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore at bay in the recent play-off semi-final. Hutton will likely be thrown a start against Fulham at Wembley in eight days time as Villa aim for promotion back to the Premier League.

Alan Hutton is a prime example of where hard work gets you in terms of changing your reputation with a fan base. The Scot was part of Villa’s infamous ‘bomb squad’ that was relegated from the Premier League in the 2015/16 season with just 17 points on the board and only three wins to their name. Today, despite being written off with calls from fans to sell him, Hutton has turned the fans opinions around as they all want to see him start over Neil Taylor in the aim of shutting off Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon next Saturday.

Aston Villa had been Premier League ever-presents until their dreaded 2015/16 season. The club looked relegated from September and had the inevitable confirmed when they lost 1-0 at Old Trafford that year, however, they’ll be looking back to that season for motivation if they can get Premier League promotion this year. Their hopes all boil down to 90 minutes against Fulham, where the winner will be crowned the 3rd promoted side and will pocket an estimated £190 million for their troubles, Hutton and co will have to make sure it’s them.
