It’s been a phenomenal week for Leicester City, recording the joint-largest Premier League victory in history with a 9-0 thrashing of Southampton, followed by reaching the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup last night.
The Foxes have been playing with their tails up recently, scoring 12 goals in two games, with their latest cup victory coming at the expense of Burton Albion.
Youri Tielemans put the ball on a plate for Kelechi Iheanacho to open proceedings before the Belgian himself made it 2-0, slotting a comfortable side-footed effort past Kieran O’Hara to put Leicester firmly in control.
Burton’s Liam Boyce then grabbed a goal back, adding some nerves for the second half, only for England midfielder James Maddison to put the result beyond doubt in the final minute – capping off a routine 3-1 victory.
Ben Chilwell, who opened the scoring in Leicester’s 9-0 romping at the weekend, didn’t travel with the squad for their cup tie – likely being rested for the Foxes’ trip to Crystal Palace – but did send a congratulatory message upon yet another smooth win.
The England left-back reached out to his teammates, simply stating: “Brilliant tonight boys!”.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have made a flying start to this campaign so far, currently sitting third in the Premier League after recording six wins already this season – including particularly impressive victories over Spurs, Newcastle and, of course, Southampton.
Some pundits have tipped Leicester to break the top six this season, while a Champions League qualifying place could also be on the cards judging by their performances so far.
It’s a long, hard season ahead – but the above is certainly looking possible at this rate.
Will Leicester City finish the season in the top six?
