Leicester City complete deal for German World Cup winning goalkeeper

Germany v Argentina - FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 - FinalThe Leicester City fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern are discussing news that the club have completed the signing of a new player.

The club confirmed that they have completed a deal to bring German international goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler from Hannover 96.

The keeper has signed a four year deal with the Premier League champions and will be competing with Kasper Schemeichel to be the club’s number one next season.

Zieler began his career in England with Manchester United and played with Leicester City squad members Danny Simpson, Danny Drinkwater and Ritchie De Laet during his time in the youth ranks at Old Trafford.

He spent time away from Old Trafford at League One Northampton Town during the 2008/09 season before moving on to Hannover in 2010.

His move back to Germany proved to be great for his career and ended up earning him international honours for Germany for whom he has made six appearances for to date and was part of the squad which won the World Cup in 2014.

Speaking of his delight at completing the move to Leicester, Zieler said:

“It feels great coming to Leicester and joining the Club after they’ve had such a great season – it’s really nice to be part of the Club now. I’ve been shown around the training ground and it looks very good and I’ve been to the stadium – I heard about the great atmosphere and the great fans, so my first impression is very good.”

Our landlord in The Tavern feels Zieler is a top quality addition to Leicester’s squad and if they can add players of the same quality over the summer they could be in for another successful season during 2016/17.
