Leicester City: Fans delighted after Carabao Cup win

Lots of Leicester City fans are seemingly buzzing after they defeated Newcastle United in their backyard in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup.

The Foxes fired themselves into the next round by defeating Newcastle on penalties at St. James’ Park and many Leicester fans couldn’t hide their excitement on Twitter.

Brendan Rodgers was not kidding around when he said that he was taking cup competitions seriously this year (LCFC) as he put out a near full-strength 11 to take on Newcastle. Only two changes were made from the win away at Sheffield United for the club as Dennis Praet and Jonny Evans dropped to the bench for Harvey Barnes and Wes Morgan.

James Maddison scored the only goal for the Foxes in what was a fairly even and lacklustre match. His free-kick in the 34th minute took a very fortunate deflection and flew beyond Karl Darlow in the opposition’s net.

Yoshinori Muto later equalised for Newcastle with a close-range finish in the 53rd minute, before the game fizzled out into penalties. It was probably a fair outcome for both sides considering that there were only three shots on target in the entire match.

Leicester went on to win the game 4-2 on penalties with Kasper Schmeichel proving to be the hero; James Maddison also contributed with a wondrous panenka.

Many Leicester fans were clearly happy to see their side go through and didn’t hold back to show support to their club’s Twitter page.
