Leicester City: Fans elated with Dennis Praet announcement

Leicester City fans have responded in droves to the news of Dennis Praet signing a five-year contract at the club.

The Belgian international was signed by the Foxes for a reported £18m from Italian outfit Sampdoria.

Praet, 25, has played 98 league games since joining from Anderlecht in 2016, scoring four goals and assisting six times.

The creative midfielder has represented his country on three occasions, and has made a total of 237 senior appearances in the Belgian and Italian top divisions, and was recently described by Samp’s manager Eusebio Di Francesco as “one of the best midfielders in Italy” (via BBC).

Praet was the fourth signing of Rodgers’ tenure, with the club also signing James Justin, Ayoze Perez and Youri Tielemans this summer – the latter of which used to play alongside Praet for Anderlecht.

The deal was confirmed well past the deadline yesterday, which evoked many negative memories from Leicester fans after the Adrien Silva saga in 2017. Thankfully, though, the club have confirmed that the deal has gone through, subject to international clearance.

Leicester fans seem delighted with the business done by the their club, with many fans giving hugely positive reactions on Twitter to the news. Memes flooded the replies to the club’s initial tweet, with many bigging up their chances of European football this year, while a few took their hats off to Director of Football, Jon Rudkin.
