Our relatively small contingent of Sheffield Wednesday fans in the Transfer Tavern have been making a lot of noise this evening, with an intriguing story being reported.
Football Insider claims that Sheffield Wednesday agreed a deal with Premier League leaders Leicester City for the services of Jamie Vardy, which would have cost the Owls just £5m.
It is believed that former Leicester manger Nigel Pearson authorised the sale of the Premier League’s top scorer. However, Wednesday’s new Thai owners are said to have pulled out at the last minute, much to the frustration of their supporters in the Tavern who see their side currently 7th in the Championship.
Vardy has since been a sensation in the English top tier, having netted 18 goals this term. The 29-year old’s latest victims were Liverpool this week when he bagged a brace, the first a contender for goal of the season, keeping Claudo Ranieri’s men 3 points clear at the top of the league.
And our landlord has stated that Vardy is now reportedly close to signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2019 after he scored in 11 consecutive Premier League games, breaking Ruud Van Nistlerooy’s record and earned an England call-up.
Leicester City fans, where would you have been in the league table without Vardy? Let us know in the comments below!
