Leicester City’s only Mahrez replacement should be £4.5m-rated maestro this summer

Leicester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are devastated at the prospect of one of their best players leaving the club this summer – our punters love him!

Premier League champions Manchester City are believed to be close to sealing a £60m deal to sign Foxes winger Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian submitted a transfer request in January with the Citizens interested but walked away due to their valuation. Now the window is open again, he is finally set to seal his move to the Etihad.

Mahrez will be sorely missed at the King Power Stadium after scoring 48 goals in 179 appearances. He was also instrumental in their title-winning season in 2016, scooping the PFA Player of the Year award. His departure will leave a huge gap in the Leicester side that needs to be filled.

The ideal replacement could be Aston Villa winger – Jack Grealish. The Englishman almost fired the Villains back into the Premier League but Fulham came out on top in the playoff final. The 22-year-old has scored three goals and registered eight assists in all competitions for Steve Bruce’s side this year.

Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old has enjoyed one of the best seasons in his career. In many ways, he is similar to Mahrez. Grealish is an excellent dribbler, using his low centre of gravity and tricks to beat his man. Villa do not want to lose their star player but may not have a choice but to sell up.

The club are set to be crippled by financial fair play after failing to win promotion. After posting losses again, Villa must curb their spending next year and could sell Grealish to generate funds. Leicester should look to take advantage and bring him to the King Power.
