Leicester City are preparing to fight some of Europe’s bigger clubs for the signing of Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui.
The 21-year-old right-back has struggled for regular football so far this campaign, starting just three league games for the club and coming on in two. 18-year-old American international Sergino Dest has been favoured for Ajax, so the future of Mazraoui is now very much in doubt in Amsterdam.
AS Roma Live has now suggested that Leicester will go up against Tottenham, Roma and Valencia to try and secure his signature.
Considering that Mazraoui had such a key part in such a successful Ajax team last year, this could be a good opportunity for Leicester – if they didn’t already have one of the best right-backs in the league.
The Moroccan defender played 28 times in the league last year averaging an impressive 7.26/10 (WhoScored), as well as making 11 appearances in the Champions League, averaging 7.1/10, making it strange for him to suddenly be such a peripheral figure at the club.
His stats clearly show he is a talented player, as well as very young. But if leaving for first-team football is what he wants, then he may not be able to get that at Leicester, unless Ricardo Pereira is sold.
So far this season, no one has been as impressive as Pereira in the Leicester squad. The full-back has played every minute of the league campaign, contributed 2 goals, and has the highest average rating in the squad according to WhoScored with 7.64/10.
With Leicester also having new signing James Justin as a very capable and talented right-back on the bench, this signing makes no sense at all for the Foxes.
If they do go in for him, you’d imagine Mazraoui would be able to realise that it would be a big struggle to get into the team, and might fancy a move to one of the other big teams interested in him instead.
