Leicester landing £4.5m-rated striker would end Iheanacho’s career at the King Power

The Leicester City fans were celebrating in the Transfer Tavern last night after their side ended a barren run of form by recording a 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the King Power Stadium.

Claude Puel had Kelechi Iheanacho to thank for Leicester’s victory last night as he played a pivotal role in their attacking play throughout proceedings. Iheanacho put the Foxes in-front inside the first 15 minutes with a well-executed finish following a scrappy period of play. He was brought down by Konstantinos Mavropanos just moments later and the Arsenal newbie received his marching orders as a consequence.

Iheanacho’s impact was thoroughly pleasing for the Leicester supporters who have not seen him in action on a regular basis this season due to injury problems and competition for places. His performance last night was a timely reminder of the quality which he possesses, however, recent reports emerging from Bild suggest that he could be set for a premature departure from the King Power this summer.

According to the report, Leicester are interested in signing Hannover’s Niclas Fullkrug (valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt) this summer to bolster their attacking options, although they face competition from Newcastle United and Watford for his signature. Leicester’s interest is perfectly justifiable considering the level of success Fullkrug has enjoyed in the Bundesliga this season after notching 13 goals from 33 appearances, but they must consider the knock on effect his arrival could have on Iheanacho.

Iheanacho has proven that he is ready to be a first-team regular in the Premier League with his performances at both Man City and Leicester, and he will be craving first-team assurances as he bids to establish himself in English football. With Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani already on their books, adding Fullkrug to the equation is bound to force Iheanacho to consider both his long-term future with the club and whether he is trusted to lead the line for Leicester.

Considering Iheanacho’s level of potential, Leicester would be wise to hold on to the 21-year-old for the foreseeable future and, if Fullkrug’s arrival could force him out of the club, then they should consider abandoning their interest in the German striker this summer.
