Leicester Roundup: Interest in Soyuncu, Maddison tipped for Liverpool and Praet opens up

In this instalment of our Transfer Roundup, Football Transfer Tavern have gathered three of the biggest stories to have involved Leicester City recently and have provided our thoughts on the reports published.

CITY INTERESTED IN SOYUNCU

Despite it only being six league matches after Leicester lost their star centre back Harry Maguire for a world-record fee for a defender, they now already have alleged interest in their replacement for him.

According to reports from Fotospor (via Sport Witness), Caglar Soyuncu is wanted by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. The report states that the defender is keen to stay at Leicester until the end of the season, however, injuries to John Stones and Aymeric Laporte has made the Catalonian coach want to sign the 23-year-old this summer.

Verdict

With Manchester City now having to play Fernandinho – 5’10” and 34 years of age (Soccerbase) – in central defence, there is not much surprise that he is looking for extra reinforcements.

However, considering City were knocking at the door in the summer and didn’t fancy stumping up the money for Maguire according to Pep Guardiola, it is hard to imagine them forking out for Soyuncu, considering Leicester are surely likely to ask for a big fee at that stage of the campaign.

Soyuncu has been really impressive so far, playing every game at an average match rating of 7.08 – no centre back who has made two or more starts for City averages more.

PUNDIT TIPS LIVERPOOL TO GO IN FOR MADDISON

Liverpool have been tipped to sign Leicester City starlet James Maddison and could even bring him in as early as January, says Noel Whelan speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The pundit has said that Madison is “absolutely a Liverpool type of player” and said he can “be the new Coutinho”.

Verdict

Considering James Maddison’s fantastic start to the season, it is not surprising to see pundits linking him to such big clubs. So far, not only have Maddison’s performances averaged 7.42/10 per match according to WhoScored, as well as chip in with two assists and one goal.

Realistically, though, with Leicester’s superb start to the season, it would be really hard to see them letting Maddison leave the club considering he has the highest amount of key shots per game, crosses per game and shots per game for Leicester this season (WhoScored), showing how important he is for this side.

DENNIS PRAET SNUBBED ARSENAL FOR FOXES

New Leicester City signing Dennis Praet has recently revealed in an interview that he had a chance to join fellow Premier League club Arsenal as a 15-year-old.

The £18m (The Sun) signing told the Guardian that he had a number of choices when he was younger. He said: “I had three or four really good options.

“We went to visit Arsenal, Lille, Ajax and Anderlecht. Arsenal would have been a really nice step and I could earn a lot more money there than in Anderlecht, but at that moment my education was not finished and that was really important for me – there was no insurance that I would become a good football player.”

Verdict

Leicester City fans will be happy that he didn’t join Arsenal back then as it is unlikely he would have ended up at the King Power.

It is obviously hard to predict how differently his career would have gone if he joined Arsenal, but his current path has made him a great prospect for Leicester.

He has only played three games in his Leicester career so far, coming on in two, finding it difficult to feature while Youri Tielemans and James Maddison are in such great form but the Foxes seem to have an exciting project under Rodgers, so the future could be bright.
