Leicester City supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their team get back to winning ways in the Premier League at the weekend.
Claude Puel’s men went into their clash with struggling Huddersfield Town off the back of successive defeats at the hands of Liverpool and Bournemouth, and thus seeking to bounce back against David Wagner’s Terriers at the King Power Stadium. And they did just that on Saturday as goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, James Maddison, and Jamie Vardy inspired the Foxes to come from behind to seal a 3-1 victory, a result which has moved them up to ninth place in the Premier League table.
Thus, there have been many thrilled Leicester fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been heaping praise on the attacking trio of Iheanacho, Maddison, and Vardy, all three of whom played their part in not only netting for Puel’s side on Saturday, but also carrying a big threat throughout the 90 minutes.
And while the attackers deserve credit for their endeavours against the Yorkshire club at the weekend, it was defender Ben Chilwell who was their unsung hero after another excellent display down the Leicester left-hand-side.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a wonderful few weeks in producing fine displays for the Foxes to thus earn a call-up to the senior England squad, making his debut at the King Power Stadium in their 1-0 success over Switzerland back on September 11.
Thus, the young left back is likely full of confidence at present in embarking upon the best football of his career, and that was certainly evident on Saturday as Chilwell again proved his worth to manager Puel with another accomplished display for the Foxes.
The defender had 89 touches of the ball over the course of the 90 minutes to underline how regularly he was in the game looking to make things happen for the hosts, while he also completed 52 of 63 passes (83%) to suggest that he was reasonably effective when he got on the ball.
Significantly, the Englishman produced five key passes for Leicester down that left-hand-side to underline his attacking instincts, with the 21-year-old often getting into good positions in the final third to give the Terriers backline something to think about.
Yet the young left back also did his bit defensively to help Puel’s men seal all three points, winning a team-high six aerials to combat the threat posed by the visitors, while he also completed 100% of his tackles (2/2) to suggest that he is just as adept on the ground as he is in the air.
Add in five clearances and an interception, and Chilwell excelled in all aspects on Saturday to continue his recent run of great form, with the defender doing his bit offensively and indeed defensively to suggest that he was their unsung hero in victory over Huddersfield at the weekend.
