Leicester’s preparations for the 2018/19 season have been rocked following Manchester United’s pursuit of Harry Maguire.

Despite joining the club last summer from Hull City, United have made landing the England international their number one priority. Jose Mourinho is keen to improve his defence and prefers Maguire to Toby Alderweireld. Leicester are unwilling to allow their prized asset to leave for less than £75m.

If Maguire leaves, Leicester will have to move quickly to sign a replacement. Premier League clubs voted last season to close the transfer window before the start of the season meaning the Foxes have until August 9th to replace the defender. Recent reports suggest Claude Puel will make a move for Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles.

Instead, Leicester should launch an ambitious bid for Juventus defender – Medhi Benatia. Valued at £20.7m by Transfermarkt, the Moroccan defender could be set to leave the club this summer. According to reports, Leonardo Bonucci wants to return to the Old Lady and Benatia could be axed as a result.

He made 20 appearances in the Serie A last season and averaged a respectable 7.25 rating according to WhoScored – higher than anyone in the Leicester squad. The 31-year-old has experience of playing at the highest level from his time at Juve, Bayern Munich and Roma. His arrival would no doubt help Leicester fans recover from the loss of Maguire.

A strong, powerful defender, Benatia would have no issues adapting to life in England. If he is available, Puel must bring him to the King Power.

Leicester fans, thoughts?
