According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Leicester City are closing in on the defensive additions of Filip Benkovic and Caglar Soyuncu. 21-year-old Benkovic currently plays his football in his homeland with Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb, while former Arsenal target Soyuncu has spent the last two years in Germany with Bundesliga outfit Freiburg.

And it appears that Claude Puel is on the verge of bringing both of them to the King Power Stadium, a double deal which, if completed before tomorrow’s 5pm deadline, would leave the future looking very bright indeed at the 2016 Premier League champions.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Foxes weren’t brilliant defensively last season in shipping 60 goals in their 38 Premier League matches. And that figure would probably have been a lot higher were it not for Harry Maguire’s efforts as well.

And with he heavily linked with a move to Manchester United after impressing at the World Cup with England, alongside the fact that Wes Morgan is 34 and Robert Huth left the club earlier in the summer, the onus was on Puel to think forward and bring a more youthful look to the Leicester backline in a bid to set them up for an extremely bright future.

Jonny Evans’ arrival, regardless of how shrewd a move it could prove to be, wasn’t necessarily a nod in that direction, but the supremely talented duo of Benkovic and Soyuncu certainly is.

21-year-old Benkovic has been earning rave reviews in Croatia in recent times in helping Dinamo Zagreb win the domestic league title twice in the last three years, with the centre back possessing the capabilities both on and indeed off the ball to suggest that he could be a big hit in the Premier League.

And 22-year-old Soyuncu is another who has made great strides in the last few years at German outfit Freiburg, appearing 50 times for the Bundesliga club since his move there back in 2016, with his exploits earning him 14 successive appearances in the Turkish national team - there's a reason Arsenal were keen on him earlier in the window.

Thus, it’s seems pretty clear that both Benkovic and Soyuncu have extremely bright futures ahead of them in the game, and that is sure to come as music to the ears of Foxes supporters who have seen their title-winning stalwarts Morgan and Huth somewhat struggle in the twilight of their careers.

And even were Leicester to lose Maguire before the 5pm deadline on Thursday, securing a double deal for the hugely talented Benkovic and Soyuncu would still leave the future looking extremely bright at the Midlands outfit.
